My SSD and windows 7 scores

My SSD, which is a 80GB Intel X25-M, has been running fine for 3 months no issues, however my win7 score tester thingy said ‘scores needed to be refreshed’ so i can the assessment and the Primary Hard Drive went from 7.8 to 7.4, i know this is scoring system is not by any stretch a definitive benchmark, but it has bothered me a little as to why, i have just installed the intel toolbox and ran the maintenance tools, also on the December firmware. The only changes i have made to my system is replace my 2nd drive (WDSE16 500GB) with a Seagate 1TB, any thoughts guys?

Re: My SSD and windows 7 scores

I think Microsoft recalibrate their benchmark scores periodically to account for newer and faster kit hitting the market. It may be that there isn't actually any performance drop. For reference, my X25M also scores 7.4

Basically what Ghee said. Microsoft are now continually updating the WEI scores for hardware. And as newer, better and faster comes out, the older stuff will get a downgraded score. Doesn't mean your hardware is crap. Just means the stick that it is measured by was upgraded.

I pay no attention to it what so ever.

Re: My SSD and windows 7 scores

Did you re-bench it after running the maintenence tools?

Could just be an anomaly with the benchmark (i.e. something else happened to use the disk whilst it was running), or it could be that you've reached the point where all the data blocks in the SSD have been written to at least once. If you haven't got TRIM support, you'll be hitting a penalty if all the data blocks have been used at least once. So... maybe make sure to run the maintenance tools more often.

Or - as others have said, Microsoft could just be changing the yardstick.

makes sense that they do up the anti i guess as new hardware comes out, what's the best way to see if TRIM is enabled?

If you haven't flashed the firmware yet and you've had it for three months then it doesn't have it enabled.

Re: My SSD and windows 7 scores

I'm pretty sure that's the one that added TRIM support - so you probably do have it enabled.

Re: My SSD and windows 7 scores

If you want to check to make sure do this:

Command prompt > "fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify"

DisableDeleteNotify = 1 (Windows TRIM commands are disabled)
DisableDeleteNotify = 0 (Windows TRIM commands are enabled)

Problem is, that tells you if windows is sending the commands, not whether they're being processed. AFAIK there is no way to determine 100% if TRIM is on and working.
    Which is crap.

0 if windows is sending the command, 1 if not..
This system has a mechanical drive, so although it's enabled it's not going to do anything..

You're right - sorry - i've edited my post accordingly. And this is the point - this does not tell you if you're drive is TRIMing.

Crazy Fool might want to have a look at some articles over at AnandTech. They have atleast 2 REALLY in-depth studies on SSDs and anything related to them. Pretty sure they talked about the TRIM command in-depth and ways you can test it out.
