Hard drive test results interpretation help

hello everyone. I could do with someone to interpret these hd tach and hd tune results for a hard drive im thinking of using (recovered from skip). hd tach was run using the 32mb long test.

    its a Western Digital caviar WD800 IDE, 80GB from 10 july 2005.

I was mainly worried about the massive drop at the 46gb mark in the hd tach results. so i ran the test again and got this..

anything I should be worried about? anything that jumps out from the screen and screams 'this drive is about to die'?

(sorry about the picture size, if it was any smaller, you wouldnt be able to read anything - dont quote this post, there'll be loads of big pictures then )

It's normal, it's just something else accessing the disk while you're benchmarking.

As above - absolutely normal and everything looks fine with that disk

pity i cant say the say for the other drive that was in the skip-puter, . KIS found 112 viruses and serious threats. and there were more bad sectors than good ones.

It's a reasonable bet that that's why it was in the skip in the first place...

Re: Hard drive test results interpretation help

For a five year old drive thats actually got a few less hours run time on it than I expected !

My 1 TB Seagate LP drive has rocked up some 2200 hours and thats just in three months !

Was going to say I wouldn't trust it with anything of any great importance data wise.

Re: Hard drive test results interpretation help

the lack of hours could be explained by:
it was a virus ridden knackered computer, so they put it in the loft/back of cupboard for a few years and forgot about it, had a clean up and decided to chuck it.

its going to be used a clone of my C drive, to save me having to do a full re-install incase i mess it up.
because i have over 60 games installed that also put files on the C drive, it just seems the right thing to do. i dont want to spend 4 days reinstalling again cant afford to buy a new drive, so this is the next best option for me.

and i just checked my C drive and the games drive. C has done 3484 hours, games 3486. so you can tell what i mainly use my PC for
