Now the prices of SSD's have come down to a more acceptable level (in my mind anyway) i've decided to take the plunge. i've narrowed it down to the OCZ vertex 2e 60gb or the corsair f60. they both seem very similar in performance and price. any recommendations on these (or others for similar money?)
The Vertex 2E is vastly superior in regard to IOPS - 50K vs. 15K, however this will only translate into a noticeable benefit when virtualizing or similar disk intensive activities involving lots of random writes.
I seem to recall that Corsair SSDs don't always get detected by BIOSs easily and so it can be difficult to get them to initially boot.
OCZ is also seems to get Sandforce firmware updates sooner.
Is it? The spec for the Vertex 2E 60GB is as good as identical to the Corsair Force 60GB, Unless the Corsair site is wrong of course.Quote:

The 3 I was looking at in the end was the Kingston, Crucial c300 and the Vertex.
The IOPS looked low on the kingston but, It was cheap at about £80.
The Crucial looked good but, the 64GB write speed was low.
The Vertex read and write speed on the specs looked almost Symetrical but, it reality it appears not to be.
With that said, I'm far from an expert on SSD's.

Would probably steer clear of the Corsair atm, even though on paper it looks to be identical spec to the OCZ with the same sf1200 controller, the Corsair forums are full of people with problems at the moment (probably down to firmware). Went OCZ myself recently and had no probs.
i'm starting to think that now as well. still tempted by the crucial c300 64gb as well as it seems to have supreme read performance and is available pretty cheap direct from crucial (especially with quidco) for £110, however the supreme performance of the sandforce controller seems to be winning me over currently.Quote:

I would say if your using it as a boot drive and you already have SATA3 go with the Crucial, otherwise you can't really go wrong with the Vertex 2 atm, especially as the price has come down in the last week or so and, as has been pointed out, you do get the mounting bracket bundled - not a deal breaker but it will add another fiver to the bill if you have to buy one.

I still remember looking at the Hyperos Hyperdrives some years ago and their huge price tag at the time.
think i'll grab one of the vertex drives next time scan has them on today only with the akasa bracket bundled as it looks like you can put 2 2.5" discs on it. hopefully that will be towards the end of this week!
