    Question SSD Recommendation

    Hi People

Looking to get a SSD for my Macbook Pro and I am unsure on which one to get. I don't want to spend more than £250 really. Looking for around 120GB to 180GB of space.

The one that have taken my eye at the moment is the: 120GB SSD OCZ Technology Vertex 2E

    Recommendations and thoughts wanted

    Re: SSD Recommendation

The 2E vertex is the best choice currently. However, this does seem to change on almost a daily basis. Do you get TRIM with OSX ?
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Don't think you can go wrong with the 2E as an all-round performer, especially as the price has come down quite a bit in the last few weeks. If you do go for the one you listed don't forget to go to Scan's TO page, where it's currently under £200 (plus you'll qualify for free postage if you register pronto).

Doesn't really matter with Durawrite, as the drive itself pretty much disregards TRIM in favour of it's own process.

They ain't bad drives, but go and check out my posts about the slowdowns (along with the links of others having this). If you get hit by the issue, you can really see a performance hit. When they are working fine though, they are fantastic.

    Re: SSD Recommendation

I've had a Vertex 2E for a few weeks now, I like it. Programs open much quicker and the machine generally feels much snappier than when using a HDD.

    Re: SSD Recommendation

If I didn't already have an SSD i'd be tempted to wait to see what intel do with the G3. It's supposed to be getting released in Q4 and the 160gb version should be around the same price as the 80gb version is now.

I'm assuming it will outperform the sandforce drives as well but that's pretty much complete speculation on my part.
