    New Hard drive

Well, my Hard drive is almost full, and for the first time ever its not full of rubbish! I've been good about uninstalling programs that I don't use, so the only option left to me is a larger or 2nd hard drive.

Is the Samsung F3 series still the drive of choice? I have the 500gb version currently and have been happy with it, so should I just get the 1TB version, or is there a better option around now?

    Thanks in advance

    Re: New Hard drive

Actually, nothing has happened since the F3. There's the F4, but it's only 320GB, otherwise there's not much.

You can look at WD's Caviar Black, but they are a bit more expensive.

    Re: New Hard drive

Done a load of research prior to buying all my bits and bobs - F3 seems by far the main "most bang for the buck" option most people suggest.

How much are you planning to spend on it though ?

    Re: New Hard drive

There's only really 2 contenders (for mechanical hard drives) - the 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3's and the Western Digital 1TB WD1002FAEX Caviar Black.

The Samsungs are a little quieter also as the WD's can be noisy.

If you hop over to Scan now you can buy 2 of the Samsung drives for £74.99 which is the price of a single Western Digital drive!

    Decision made me thinks!!!

    Re: New Hard drive

I've got a 500GB F3 and I can't hear it over the noise of the fans (not that I've tried to hear it, but i've never been conscious of such a noise) and it's very fast in terms of sequential read, got to about 150 when I checked.

I have a Samsung F3 500GB in my Shuttle and it is relatively quiet IMHO.

    Re: New Hard drive

i also have a Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB and it IS quiet. highly recommend it

but if you are just using it for extra storage, it makes more sense to buy a 1tb drive
    the samsung spinpoint f3 1tb is about £40 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/ss1tb...-89-ms-ncq-oem

    Re: New Hard drive

Thanks for all the replies. I have Samgsung F3 500GB already, and I've been happy with it, just nit enough space! Just wasn't sure if there was a new King in the hard drive world, but looks like the F3 is still the best value. Looks like I'll grab a 1TB F3. Thanks again!
