Which is the best SSD for between £70 to £100??

With the price of SSDs dropping I am thinking in investing in one for my new build once I have had a rummage down the back of the sofa. My H67 motherboard has SATA 3.0(Gigabyte GA-H67N-USB3).

TBH,I am not so clued up on the latest and greatest SSDs ATM so I would appreciate some advice in this area.

The drives I am looking at are:
1.)OCZ Vertex 60GB which is around £74 on OcUK
    2.)OCZ Vertex 2E which is around £90 to £100
    3.)Crucial C300 64GB which is around £80 to £90
    4.)Crucial C400 64GB which is around £100

The Crucial drives seem to have decent read speeds but write speeds look a tad "slow" when compared to the competition. OTH,the Crucial drives are meant to be more reliable from what I read.

Also,I have heard that the newer 25NM flash modules are less reliable than the older ones so it is better to go with an older drive??

I am also using Vista 64 bit ATM.

I have the OCZ Vertex 2E in my laptop, and it is v.quick. Boots to windows and loads all in 20 secs max.

From what i remember, the crucials have a higher read speed, but slower write speeds. Think it was only a small difference anyway.

Re: Which is the best SSD for between £70 to £100??

The 25nm I too have read about slower speeds, which would lean me toward the Crucial C300 out of the two crucial models.

    Model Read/Write
    Vertex 230/135
    Vertex 2E 285/275
    C300 355/70

From these straight away the 2E looks like the best all round.

I'm on dual Crucial M225 125gb in Raid 0 (250/190 EACH) and each of those have similar attributes to the Vertex 2e. The vertex is their first go at this if my memory serves.

Personally I'd go with the C300 because of the read speed which is great for boot up time, and then I'd do something with the page file, like stick it in a ram disk (I have 12Gb) rather than disabling it.

However, as an all round no hassle drive, the Vertex 2E has got to be the one to go for. That's the same speeds give or take as my 2 300GB Velociraptor drives in Raid according to HDTune/HDTach

The 70mb/s write time puts me off that drive for the OS because I'm unsure of the impact on the Page File.

Re: Which is the best SSD for between £70 to £100??

I'd be tempted to go for the C300 due to the better random and sequential read speeds, and near comparative random speeds outside of data that panders to the SF1200 controller.

OTOH, maybe wait for the Intel G3's to drop closer too £100? This way you get Intel reliability, as well as the consistent SF1200 like performance offered up by non-SF controller based drives.

Again, make sure you check the random figures of whatever drive you're looking at.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
