Not really. What about non compressible data in games and applications then??
On top of this perhaps you should look at the HardOCP article again. With exactly the same controller, the drives with asynchronous NAND show much larger performance drop-offs even with drive being 25% or 50% full.
Most of the reviews test these drives more or less empty or even without Trim enabled. This is why in another thread on Hexus another forum member was confused why their OCZ RevoDrive seemed to show lower performance than in many reviews. It turns out a review which had Trim enabled showed similar performance to what he saw when he tested the drive.

Ah yeah! Thanks for that. Useful tip. I only hit 20 posts today so I think I have to wait till midnight to activate my free postage. Then I can order all my bits and bobs.
I think I am going to go for the Crucial. Read some shocking tales on other forums about even the updated Force 3. Shame really.
Cricial for me too, but is the 64gb one worth getting? I can't really afford the 128gb version.
If you want an SF2281 drive with synchronous NAND wait a bit longer as they should drop in price.
There is the 60GB Adata S511 for around £84 which I have already mentioned in this thread which has the necessary requirements. However,I don't know how good Adata support is and looking at the Hexus review performance seems to be inconsistent at times for some reason. I don't see much mention of it on forums so either it is bug free or not very popular.
I suppose the main weakness of the M4 64GB is its relatively low write speeds. However,it seems a relatively reliable drive.
The Kingston 96GB V+100 doesn't seem too bad for the price.
They are quite expensive TBH. Anything over £90 for a 60GB SSD is just not worth it IMHO as it is £1.5/GB!!
If you look at some of the larger drives they are closer to £1/GB. I get the impression the prices of many of these smaller drives are being artifically inflated.
I have the Kingston myself, albeit the 64GB version. Ok it may not the absolute fastest SSD around but its cheap, reliable and MUCH faster than a mechanical HDD.
I chose to go for this because the SSD market is still very immature and I'm sure massive gains will be made over the next year or so, which could make even a relatively fast SSD look like a snail.
So in a year or 2 when the market is nicely settled down I can spend a bit more and get the SSD I really want (250gb +), but in the meantime I have a significant speed boost compared to a mechanical drive for relatively minimal cost.
Going back a bit, I thought the main reason for higher over provisioning for the 25nm flash over the 34nm flash was because the modules were a higher density.
I've ordered the Crucial.
I'm going to be in tears if there are any problems with it.
I got the OCZ vertex 2E 120gb for my grilfriend's Macbook Pro, and it's lightning fast
it cost me about £135
SARACEN...

Intel 80gb drive. £113 inc
Might need to use double sided sticky pads to fit it into his case, if it comes with no brackets.. mine had no brackets, my mate's did have brackets. Makes no difference though.. it's tiny.
It's a total experience to have an SSD... it's like lightning.
Do that.. get that drive.. it'll be rock solid.. he'll love it.. it's a great all rounder.. and you'll want one afterwards :)
especially when you do Windows udates or virus scans.. it's UBER!
crucial m4 all the way - best value/price ratio! which is hard to get at such a high performance!
