Optiplex GX620 Hard Drive Upgrade - Left handed?!

    Hi there all,

Been browsing the forums for a long time but never decided to post so hello all!

Now I have a Dell Optiplex GX620. Now here is my PC specs briefly:

    http://support.dell.com/support/edoc....htm#wp1133451

Not sure if I have the mini or the mid range tower though, I think it might be the mini one.

I am upgrading the PC and am installing 4GB of RAM soon then Win 7 Ultimate x64. I need a new hard drive and this is where I get stuck.

I opened the PC and upon inspecting the hard drive I noticed its a left hand connection (SATA) Now what hard drive is there that could fit to that? :S

I've uploaded a picture to photobucket of my hard drive and its connectors just so its easier to get what I mean:

Is there a type of cable adaptor I could use at all? I want to move up to around a 500GB hard drive (no floppy disk drive installed on mine)

Eventually I will also get a new GPU which is a much less pressing matter but definately a bried input on to what might do will be nice I'm thinking:

Would this fit? It's low profile so hopefully!

Edit: Might also consider these GPU's (input's please)

Thanks in advance for reading and especially so for any replies!

Either put the HDD in upside down or get a small SATA extender.

That's a standard sata connection, the longer bit is for the power connector the shorter bit is for the data cable, which will go to the same sized connector on the motherboard, minus the power connector half of course.

From the picture it's a standard 3.5" sata hard drive so there's lots to chose from, the Samsung F3 is well recommended for a good 500gb hard drive, although they are getting harder to find now.

One thing you might want to consider is the 1tb version, it's a bit more expensive but not much http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1tb-s...cache-89ms-ncq

Western Digital Caviar Blue and Caviar Black are also good.

Unfortunately hard drive prices have gone up at the moment 4 months ago you could of picked up the F3 1tb for £40 and the 500gb version for £28

Re: Optiplex GX620 Hard Drive Upgrade - Left handed?!

Wicked thanks for the replies guys Didn't realise it would work still upside down as I thought there were specific fitting requirements Would my PC recognise a 1TB hard drive though? I've heard there have been some issues with the GX620 recognising anything over 160GB or something like that but not sure

The 1TB is definitely tempting especially with a 32MB cache...

Having mulled it over for a while I went ahead and bought:
    http://www.misco.co.uk/Product/Q2829...nal-Hard-Drive which also has a 32MB cache

What did those GPU's seem like to you guys as well? a bit off the topic of my post but just wondering

Re: Optiplex GX620 Hard Drive Upgrade - Left handed?!

2gb is pointless on a gt520, it's a very weak card, heck 1gb is probably pointless on it.

If all you want is a basic card to show a desktop and watch videos then this is a decent card http://www.misco.co.uk/Product/16260...-Graphics-Card
if you want to game on it, none of them you'll need something better and more expensive.
