Hi guys,
I bought a little netbook recently. It runs great actually but in an effort to boost its performance even further I'm considering buying an OCZ 60GB Vertex Plus SSD. Is it worth it? I'd be losing a great deal of space as the netbook currently has a 250GB HDD but it's largely empty anyway...

The only performance you will boost is load times. Only you can decide if the price is worth it.
Application loading times are greatly improved too, it's not only boot times that are improved..
SSD is the best upgrade I've ever done, since getting one for my main pc, I've put one in my netbook and media centre

Yes get a SSD - you'll never turn back.
I've got 2 of them in my new gaming PC ATM - 1 x 60 GB OCZ Vertex 3 and 1 x 60GB Aglilty 3 and when I use any other PC which is mechanical drive based I can feel a huge difference.
Fingers cross I'll get a 3rd SSD I want before Xmas and install that for even more game space :D
I only recently changed from 2 x Hybrid drives (part SSD and part HDD) running in a RAID 0 setup to a single 120GB SATAIII SSD and i didnt expect to notice a massive bump in performance but wow what an improvement.
Loading up windows, loading up applications, loading up games, general file browsing... everything is a lot snappier. I reckon its well worth it!
I you need extra data storage then just pick up and external USB powered hard drive.
I put a crucial M4 64 gig SSD in my 4 year old laptop, and it destroys the missus' brand new laptop in boot-up/application performance by an order of magnitude! I can be surfing the net with 1 minute on mine now, while she's still chugging away for about 2+ mins before she can load up her homepage. Admittedly it only came with a 5400rpm disc but even so.... :P I will rip it out and stick another M4 in it when payday comes around again.
Both running fresh win 7 installs (new laptop came preloaded with so much crap I decided to start again rather that try and remove it all)
With prices the way they are with Hard Drives it does make sense to go the SSD route
Definitely worth it. It won't massively affect load times over a good hard drive (though compared to what's in a netbook I don't know), but the main difference is the non-existent access times - random reads and writes are done in a flash (excuse the pun) and that makes everything so much snappier - all those hundreds of background tasks that windows does suddenly no longer get in the way.
If getting rid of the hard drive then battery life and noise will also improve.
I have an 90gb agility 2 and a cheap and cheerful 64gb kingston. The difference between SSD and HDD is amazing, but I would say don't discount cheap, low or mid range performance SSDs. As long as there are no reliability issues, not everyone out there needs an M4 or similar. There is little difference in practise between my two SSDs best I can tell, even though the agility 2 should be a lot faster according to the benchmarks...
Been looking at getting an ssd myself. What brand would you guys suggest? 128gig looks like the right size for me.
Personally if I was going to use an ssd I'd like to ditch mechanical drives altogether, so I'd wait for ~250GB for <1:1 £/GB.
But then, I don't have a lot of data... ;)
Prob be a long wait though!

Thanks guys, I only paid £99.99 for the netbook so I don't want to splurge on something too expensive but from what you've said a little 60GB with reasonable read/write speeds seems like a good idea.

You do notice a slight difference on the netbook, but nothing as much as on a desktop or laptop.
If you really do want to venture down this route, I would suggest you grab a 60gb one secondhand from the forums. They hover around £60 or so delivered. This will be the most cost effective route to take.
I've just finished installing Crucial M4s into both my PCs (along with some OCZ Vertex 1s I bought ages ago, as game drives).
It really does depend on what you tend to do. I mostly play games, surf the web and check e-mail. Other than boot times and a few loading times in games I don't really notice a lot of difference. Generally I only turn my PC on once a day (unless an update needs to reboot it) so the benefit I get is limited to BF3 levels loads a few seconds quicker. I can then spend those few seconds waiting for the game to start...
For web browsing and e-mail I'm more limited by my internet speed than my HDDs.
