SSD or HDD in RAID? What size/brand?

Hi all! Thx for taking time and reading this.

I have few noob questions here, please be easy.

What would be a good SSD size/brand for desktop OS and applications in terms of speed and reliability? I seem to have read somewhere that 64GB SSDs aren't much quicker than good HDD.

Would I be able to get SSD like performance from 2 x SATA2 HDDs in RAID? What would be the cons of such setup (except current price level and power consumption)?

Are there any advantages of keeping OS and applications separate from files (on separate drives)?

The main reason to buy a SSD is seek time, not throughput.

Go here and read a few of the reviews.

In general 64GB SSDs are a little slower than their > 120GB versions, but in everyday usage (ie: opening applications and files) you will be unlikely to see a real difference between a £80 SSD and a £150 one.

A very popular SSD right now is the Crucial M4 SSD in 64GB (£74.99) and 128GB (£140). At the checkout choose the free delivery option and enter voucher codes CRUCIAL64 or CRUCIAL128 to get this price!

Forget Raided hard drives for home use.
