Not bad at all with current hard drive prices.
At the moment most external drive are being stripped for their internal drives ;)
typical, i literally got a 3tb drive delivered today after being mucked about a couple of times with amazon and staples and now this. but i suppose at least the drive i got has the warranty that will probably be lost by opening this up
Yeah warranty is probably not as good, I would imagine the disc inside is classed as OEM
This does sound like a fantastic deal considering how the hard drive prices have rocketed up so much recently and seems like it may continue to rise.
Pity 3TB drives don't really work properly with my WHS
I'm limited to 2TB drives for simplicity (I know you can get 3TB with a lot of messing).
Really, why is that?
I'm using WHS v1 with Drive extender (pooling drives).
Later versions of WHS (Veil) supported 3TB drives, but dropped the ddrive extender.
WHS v1 PP3 sees my 3TB drive OK:-

Seems to be this disc inside:-

I thought 3TB disks had to be GPT rather than MBR and the original WHS doesn't support GPT drives in the pool?
Hmm - did you do anything special ?
Or just add to pool?
Plenty of sites make it seem its not so easy e.g.
http://spackle.wordpress.com/2011/04...3tb-in-whs-v1/
so I've avoided 3TB drives.
Maybe I've missed an update or some news that it now works easily?
Just plugged it in and it worked, I'd formatted it in a Win7 machine before installing it in my WHS, obviously WHS wiped the disc when I put it in the pool
Yeah, I've heard the same of 3Tb HDD's simply not running as one partition or so etc in Windows 32Bit, I only really would be looking at using one as a storage drive in my HTPC.
Sold out on that link but I did pick-up the last 2tb GoFlex that my local PC world had in stock on Sunday for £79.00 I felt so guilty removing the nice shiny black plastic though and to think that less than 2 months earlier I was waiting to see if 2TB drives would drop to £50 each so I could pick a pair up for a HP Microserver :(
i got product unavailable :( now
Yeah think they've all gone
Been scouring everywhere for decent priced 2GB externals this week, I think they have all gone :(
Just FYI, Scan are selling a Seagate 3TB external drive (USB 2.0) on 'Today Only' down from £151, to £119.

My largest array is running out of space, could really do with some cheaper 3TB's... think I might just try and wait out until they get to nearer the £100 mark again though. The problem is the discrepancy in estimates as to when that might be.
Hitachi 3TB Touro Desk External USB 3.0 Hard Drive £125.99 on scan today page. Also a 7200rpm drive.
Currently £119.16 which still seems great value.
I managed to pick one up for £107.99 delivered with voucher HDRIVE10 last week. They've put the price up by £10 now though.
3TB Seagate Barracudas:
£110 @ Ebuyer: http://www.ebuyer.com/319640-seagate...ve-st3000dm001
£108 @ Scan: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3tb-s...he-8ms-ncq-oem
I actually picked 2 of these up in Hong Kong at £84 each. They run quite hot though (~55'C idle)
arghh! i just don't like seagate! Now samsung sold out to them, what will they be like now? Also never like the idea of so much data on one drive! its a lot too lose
