2TB 5k RPM HDDs
Hey there,
I'm looking at getting a 2TB HDD mainly for storage and for backing up my 128GB system/programs SSD. I think I want a 'green' drive, mainly for the lower temperatures and noise and I don't really need max performance.
I'm going to possibly install a few games on there (less taxing, old stuff, indies, etc) so I'd still like a bit of performance - I've heard that some 5400/5900 drives get close to 7200 performance.
Is there a particular drive that you'd reccomend?
Thanks

Re: 2TB 5k RPM HDDs
I went for the Samsung F4EG HD204s, seem fine in my HP Microserver.

Re: 2TB 5k RPM HDDs
I'm replacing my 1tb samsungs with the 2tb 204ui's.
I'm due a new one now as I'm running out of space on my server. Got a rude shock when I saw they were up to £100. Yikes. Been a while since I bought the the last one, evidently. Don't recall it being that expensive.

Re: 2TB 5k RPM HDDs
Roughly double what I paid for mine pre-floods - hence me putting off purchasing a couple more to fill the Microserver. :(

Re: 2TB 5k RPM HDDs
Yep its a real pain, i have 3 x 1TB drives in my server that need replacing with larger drives, waiting for the prices to drop and then im banging in some 2/3TB's
8TB just isnt enough :D

In the same boat. Hoping prices will be back to normal in a few more months.

Re: 2TB 5k RPM HDDs
Not going to make a big difference. You want maximum platter density, that's all. And afaik all of the 2TB disks out at present are going to be the same configuration.
