Samsung 830 256gb vs OCZ Vertex 3 240gb vs ?
Hello
Struggling to make a decision (despite loads of research) between these two drives or are there any other better ones?
After reading alot i've gathered that Samsung is said to be reliable with sustained performance whilst the OCZ is seems to be really fast and higher performance but with some issues of longterm performance/stability...
I'm just looking for a OS/applications drive that will feel fast and be stable and remain fast for the longterm.
Can you advise please?

any reliability reports on the Samsung 830 vs Vertex 3? i.e. performance over time?

I don't think you will find any direct comparisons between the two but if you Google reviews on the independent drives you should get some results then make some comparisons yourself.
The Samsung is a much newer drive so it probably has less reports on its reliability
The OCZ drives have had their bad press for reliability however i think firmware has sorted them out, all depends how much you will be using it.

Crucial M4 is another one to consider.

While the vertex is cheaper, the choice of nand and proprietary controller on samsung does look better. Not to mention the better sustained write speeds as well.
My vote? Samsung 830.

I'd also have a good hard think about the Crucial M4. Their higher capacity drives offer increased speeds over the lower capacity drives (IIRC), which may make them the more appealing choice.

Thank you, I'll look at the Crucial M4 too.
While looking around for reviews etc... I found this site that puts them all in one place - quite handy.

Well, the Sandforce drives don't respond as well to TRIM commands as it was noted in several tests, while Samsung's offering will return to normal after the command is run, which means in the long term, the Samsung will stay faster over time unless the Sandforce based drive is factory reset every now and then to ensure that the buildup of "garbage" does not affect write performance too much.
Some of these write tests are artificially hard and the drop may not be as steep, but its always something o keep in mind.
My vote goes to the Samsung 830
