I have 2 1TB Samsung F3's HD103SJ SATA 2 and 2 500 GB Seagate ST3500413AS SATA 3. I will shortly be setting up a RAID 0/Striped configuration. I can't make up my mind whether to go with performance or storage capacity. The PC is a Dell XPS 8300 with an i7 2600 and 16 GB DDR3.
I will be selling the pair I don't use but this has no bearing on the decision. So please help, which pair would you keep and why? TIA
Sell them all and buy an SSD. Honestly RAID-0 is not worth the risk unless you're using it as a scratch drive where you don't care about your data.
I'm gonna be backing up to a network server and external hard drive so loss of data shouldn't really be a problem.Quote:

I would be more tempted to put one 1TB drive in the server, one 1TB drive in the desktop and get rid of both Seagates rather than putting a pair of Seagates in the desktop, but if you're set on RAID it won't do any harm.
I may just do that. When I first got this XPS 8300 I tried to put a F3 and F4 in but the F3 ended up as inaccessible boot device. I can't even remember how I was trying to do it but then I tried the other F3 and the same thing happened again. Both were inaccessible in another PC and then loud clicking noises and both were bricked.
I've never had any trouble with installing hard drives but I was unsure if it was something I did wrong. This was around May 11 and I just got around to RMA them 2 weeks ago and now I have more drives than I need.
I bought another Seagate because the XPS 8300 already had one in it. Running a long test on it now to make sure its ok before I sell it. The other Seagate has never been used.
