    Re: port multiplication confusion!

I'm not planning on using all 32 drives (yet ) but power draw won't be too bad. As it'll be inactive most the time the power draw will be quite low but even if for some reason all drives were active that's only 300w at most, that's total system draw.

I'm just a media whore, and instead of having a NAS here and an array there I want everything in 1 spot. And with using RAID6 even if 1 disk does for some reason fail I've still got a chance.

But as I say, this will be super low usage, just a personal media box for my house.

I wouldn't use it for any other purpose, fsck letting that much hardware get damaged just so someone else can watch a movie

    Re: port multiplication confusion!

    Hi everyone,

I am also looking at 60+ TB setup and wonder how can i build it. I see the C602 LGA 2011 mobos have up to 14 SATA ports but this still not enough. Also this solution with external enclosure is a bit messy. Can you suggest good NON-SAS expansion card for port multiplying ?

For such a big array I'd go same way I'm going. The SAS cards allow SATA drives too.

this SAS card and this SAS expander will allow up to 32 SATA drives, and supports RAID6

And you use cable SFF-8087 which plugs 1 port to 4 SATA drives
