    SSD Query

    Hi all,

Been a while since posting but I was recently thinking about buying one of those new SSD cache drive to speed up my system as I couldn't be annoyed with the hassle of migrating to an SSD.
Anyhoo I have been getting niggling problems with Windows so now I think a fresh install would be wise so will buy an SSD for this.

My Mobo is Sata 2 so was thinking of getting this cheapo Sandisk one:

I know its not the best but would still do the job?

As some of the Sata 3 ones are not much dearer would it be advisable to opt for one of those? I was considering the Agility 3 but given the comments on here I am thinking it best to look elsewhere. I am on a budget so the cheaper the better.
When I upgrade I will likely build a new system and sell this one so won't take it with me.

The Sandisk extreme is only £80 and, from what I've read, the Sandforce issues have pretty much been sorted?

The Crucial M4 which gets a lot of love on here is only £83 on Amazon.

So since I most likely won't use it in a new system should I opt for the Sata 2 Sandisk or get the Sata 3 one (or the M4)? I know its only £20 or so difference but money is tight right now so any advice is welcome.

Sorry about the wall of text

    Re: SSD Query

The Sandisk one will do its job but if I was in your situation I would hold out and wait until u have enough for the Crucial M4, it's SATA-3 so will also mean u can move it over when you build your new system

    Re: SSD Query

Thanks, I am really swaying towards the M4 now. Its only £3 more than the Sandisk Extreme but it does have an extra 8Gb. I am also struggling to to find a bad word said about it which is a good sign. For the sake of another £18 over the Sata 2 Sandisk SSD I suppose its really a no-brainer. I'll just have to go easy on the beer this month

On a side note - when I come to re-install windows to the SSD, I assume it will format the HDD as well? I know its probably a daft question and I will back up anything I need to keep to a portable HDD but I was just wondering...
