Just had my second OCZ Agility die on me. First one after about 6 weeks, second one lasted about a month!!
Looks like the M4s and 830s are pretty solid (and any intel?). Anyone any experience with the newer Samsung's? The 840 pro in particular.
I have deployed 2 128GB Crucial M4's, 2 Kingston Value 96GB SSD's (the first SSD to go below £1/gig), 1 160GB Intel SSD 320 and 1 Samsung SSD 830
The Intel and Kingston SSD's have been fine - the intel is 1 year 2 months old and in the real world feels a little faster than the kingston ones, but not by much. The kingston ones are just under 2 years old and both of them have been faultless. The Samsung has been totally reliable over the last 4 ish months I have had it in my laptop.
The 2 Crucial M4's have both been unreliable crap. First issue: the 5000 odd hour bug. Both hit by bluescreens every hour until I got to my parents house over a week later to update the firmware. One of them completely died just over 1 year old.
I know it's fashionable in this forum to love the M4 for its reliability but with my sample size of 2 they have been useless to the point I shall not be recommending Crucial SSD's to anyone.
I bought an Intel X25-M G2 80Gb when they first came out, but it got bricked with that buggy firmware they released. RMAd with scan no problem and replacement one has been fine ever since - almost 4 years now of heavy use.
I've had an old Vertex 1 as a boot drive since 2009. Except for having to update it once, I have no problems and no complaints--except that it is altogether too small. Since my Win7 64 refuses to install to a 3TB drive, I rely on the Vertex to keep me up and running and have complete confidence in it.
Of course, I see people talking about failed disk drives all the time, but I've never had one of those either--except for the time my wife dropped one on a concrete floor and it hit at a most unfortunate angle.
