    Re: Which SSD?

I see a lot of people avoiding the non-pro 840's due to the tech however they have been out a while so far and all reviewers are still happy with them. Has this actually turned into a realistic problem or are people just saying avoid because they will fall over in 5 years?!

There's not much wrong with it. It'll most likely outlive it's use...

    Re: Which SSD?

Thats what I was thinking, if people are worrying/complaining about a 3-5 year shelf life I don't really care about that. A 256gb 530mb write speed SSD will prob be pretty pointless in that amount of time.

    Re: Which SSD?

It's like worrying about the difference between a 7950 or a ti660. Both will be as useless in 5 years time.

Had both Crucial M4 and Samsung 830, you can't go wrong with them.

    Re: Which SSD?

The thing with TLC is exactly that - reduced lifespan. And yeah it probably still has all the endurance you'd ever need, but why pay the same for something with less lifespan? It's not like it's offering incredible speed for the money. Simply not worth the sacrifice, even if it's a very small sacrifice. Why not have speed, affordability AND endurance? If my motherboard supported SATA 3 I'd pick up a Samsung 840 Pro without hesitation - significantly cheaper than the slightly slower OCZ Vector and no more expensive than other high-end solutions that all fall behind in overall performance. For saving money though, the Plextor M5S offers exceptional speed for the money.

    Re: Which SSD?

I went for the Samsung 840 500Gb (non-pro). I know there are faster and longer-lifespan drives out there, but 500Gb of SSD storage for £200 is not to be sniffed at (especially as £200 was my absolute limit budget-wise). From reading reviews on the web and comments on this forum, I'm happy with my choice...

    Re: Which SSD?

Anyone have practical experience of the Crucial m500 960GB SSD? Is the extra space worth the extra money over a Samsung 840 pro 512GB?
