Looking for a 240GB high cost/performance
Hey guys,
I'm pretty sure I've already made a thread like this, but I can't see it on my profile :P
I'm looking for a 240/50/56GB SSD to be used in my PC as a boot drive for just the OS and "a few" games. When I was looking at the SanDisk Extreme a few months ago, it was £125...now it's £140 on amazon, so I don't know whether it's worth taking a plunge...or waiting till the prices come down.
I'm thinking between these SSD's:
Sandisk Extreme (£140/ 147 on Scan)
Samsung 840 (£130)
Kingston HyperX (£150 on Amazon)
Cheaper the better really. I know that only Kingston has a RMA depot inside the UK (means cheap delivery) and the others are generally a bit more expensive.
I understand that the real life performance between these would be negligible but sas they are roughly the same price, I'd like to get the one that is the best overall - performance,RMA/customer service, life expectancy . ( I know that the 840 is better at handling incompressible data, not sure how much of a difference this would make)
Re: Looking for a 240GB high cost/performance
Just go for the Samsung 840. From Scan.co.uk. Unless you are ready to spend a little more and go for a Crucial M4.
Re: Looking for a 240GB high cost/performance
Even thought the 840 is slightly better at reading, and better when handling incompressible files, it's quite a bit worse when writing anything else. I don't know where to go from this...
Re: Looking for a 240GB high cost/performance
There is not much you can do wrong with either an SSD from Intel or Samsung if you upgrade. You will see a massive performance boost and get a reliable SSD.
Re: Looking for a 240GB high cost/performance
Yeah, I cancelled the Sandisk and re-ordered the Samsung from Scan (with free delivery!)
Re: Looking for a 240GB high cost/performance
Can velro tape it to the rear of the mobo tray if you want it right out the way, they don't need air.
Re: Looking for a 240GB high cost/performance
If i were you i would buy Corsair, Kingston or SanDisk. I won't buy samsung because for me samsung just sticks their brand name on anything they can.
