    Question RocketRAID RAID5 disc errors?

    Hi folks,

I'm running a RocketRAID 2720SGL with 4 2TB Samsung HD204UI. These have been on running 24/7 for the best part of 2 years now.

I recently installed and started using their management web interface and one disc seems to be generating errors, they get repaired but it'll cause music or video to freeze if it's streaming.

Normally I'd say the disc is going which I guess it is but the errors always seem to be on the hour?! How would this be possible?

    Code:
    	2013/3/27 21:1:48	Successfully repaired bad sector on disk 'SAMSUNG HD204UI-S2HGJ1BZ907366' at Controller1-Channel1: LBA 0xab9fb980 sectors 0x10 .

Any thoughts about why it would always be on the hour or near enough?

    Cheers,
    Paul.

SMART polling? Maybe the RAID controller just happens do check for bad blocks only once per hour?

    Re: RocketRAID RAID5 disc errors?

It appears to be a coincidence, yesterday evening is was every 2 hours, but still almost on the hour.

SMART says everything is OK, no fixed bad blocks etc? I'll be swapping the drive out at the weekend so I'll find out if it's the drive or not.

    Re: RocketRAID RAID5 disc errors?

Just to let you know I think you were right. I've pulled the drive and put a new one in and the errors are gone so it must've been doing what you said.

However the SMART reporting seems to be wrong as it never said it'd fixed any errors :/
