    Storing games onto a SSD

    Hi guys,

I have a 250GB Samsung 840, which I currently have Chrome, a few programs, and WIndows 7 installed. I was wondering if it would be worth installing some games onto the SSD, or if the performance gain wouldn't be worth the sacrifice in writes?

I have recently added Assassin's Creed 2 to the SSD, and I have noticed a decrease in loading times... would something like GTA be the same?

Re: Storing games onto a SSD

Game load times are why I bought the SSD. Almost every game, it makes a huge difference. Just not Hitman Absolution. For some reason.

Oh, I meant to add into the question if moving gta to the ssd would improve loading of textures and items in shops. Not sure if the added writes would make a difference

Everything put onto the SSD will load faster, so will games. I had GTA 5 on HDD and moved it onto my SSD and load times were beautiful. Loaded the game in under 20 seconds.
Textures and loading shops and items in shops will definitely be speeded up

Sacrifice in writes? If you are worried about wearing out the SSD, don't. For all but the most insane users, that problem is fixed.

Agreed ^. SSDs will last long enough if youre not benchmarking them every day. Theyll last around 10 years with normal use (gaming, web browsing, light editing). By 5 years youd probably be looking to get a different one since prices will drop by then

I guess using ssdready wasn't exactly very accurate then :-P

Considering the post confirming textures will load quicker, I guess I'll be re downloading onto my ssd then.

All of these SSD health programs ain't great, because the underlying data they are using is pretty bad as a base. They're of limited use.

Re: Storing games onto a SSD

I just typed in my writes per day and it calculated expected life foe several drives...

But I do see what you mean, and I'm now happier to have AC2 on my SSD. Just gonna have to re download GTA onto it too ^_^

just remember to put you page file on your mech disc ..and all your storage things ie: music films and such ..
What does it matter now if men believe or no?
What is to come will come. And soon you too will stand aside,
To murmur in pity that my words were true

Don't do this. Page file is best suited to SSD by far.

Don't understand either of these statements!

Why put your Page file on the slow drive....?
Why do you need your movies to load real fast?

Depends on your usage. RAM size doesn't matter, but for most uses 4GB is a pretty useful page file size.
