Best NAS under £200: Synology DS213J or QNAP TS-220?

I'm planning to buy a NAS for my home network, and I've narrowed the choice down to either the Synology DS213J or the QNAP TS-220. Has anyone any experience with either of these models? I'm more inclined towards the TS-220 at the moment, mainly because it has better expansion options (two eSATA ports & two USB 3 ports). However, I can't seem to find any reviews of that particular model, as it's relatively new. The user reviews of the Synology DS213J are a bit mixed; many people report problems with indexing & creating thumbnails of large numbers of image files. Any info on either models would be greatly appreciated

Noise is also important (or rather, the lack of it). The unit will be located in my office, so the quieter the better...

I've got a 211j and confirm that it's a breeze to use with DSM 4.2
The indexing when it's first built does take a while, but I have a much slower CPU and less ram. But hey, if it churns away for hours in the background what do I care ? It's a once only deal.

Thanks for the feedback. Some users report it literally taking weeks to index large numbers of photos! But they were talking about many thousands of images...but still!

Not for me. I have a few tens of gig pics, plus about the same each in movies and music. Pics took the longest at may be 24 hrs.

It's probably a software bug, so I guess it will get fixed. It might already have been for all I know. Do you have your drives mirrored? Have you ever had so rebuild the array, & if so, how long did it take?

Synology all the way. I am a proud owner of a Synology DS 212j and I can't find anything against it.

Both NASes are 70 quid boxes with 130 quid software.

So buy the one with the feature set you prefer.
