    Optimum SSD Size

256 vs 128gb? I'm looking for my new build PC, and am looking to use this as my system drive in conjunction with a 2TB HDD. My current program files plus Windows tops out at 200GB. Are there cut backs I can to to save money and go for a 128gb drive or is a 256gb drive recommended?

All you need to do is install some/all programs to the 2TB drive. Just leave windows and anything else you feel needs the fastest possible disk on the SSD. 128GB will be fine for that kind of usage. I'm currently using 113GB on my SSD with Win 7, most of my programs and 40 odd gig of games. Rest of my steam library, all my media etc is on the mechanical drive.

    Re: Optimum SSD Size

I'm at 256Gb used on my new 550GB SSD with Windows 7, 17 games and my dropbox (2gb) - nothing else really installed. Glad I went for the 500 now.

    Re: Optimum SSD Size

as mentioned in another thread about ssd's, my 128 GB installed on fri night, is now at 47 GB free.

windows (winsxs folder is killing me at 12GB)
    starcraft
    dropbox (which i've tidied)
Photoshop (went for the app rather than the suite)
and just the usual apps, spotify, paint.net, winscp, notepad++ the usual stuff.

so if i were doing it again, itd be the 256, no messing.

it still might be if i can persuade my dad an SSD is the way to perk up his laptop.
