Putting a 2nd HDD in the laptop drive bay

Looking to remove the Blu ray drive from my lenovo G770 and put in a second HDD - is it the case that the generic looking adapter/caddies I see work with pretty much any laptop (provided I get the height right)?

For instance, the Silverstone TS06 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/silve...-odd-enclosure

The reason I'm looking at that one in particular is that it has an enclosure too so I could put the Blu ray drive in and use it as an external - sound reasonable?

The connector layouts on optical drives are standardised, so yes.

The only problems you may encounter are, as you already mentioned, the thickness (some Toshiba Tecras/Porteges and Thinkpads take slightly slimmer than normal optical drives) and the outside (tray's faceplate) of the optical drive not being flush the laptop's side panel.

From what I can tell by the photos of the G770 on the net, it seems the G770 has a 'regular' 12.7mm drive bay but a non standard bezel, meaning, a standard caddy will fit and function but won't sit flush.

Some caddies are sold with matching bezels for a particular laptop range, although I couldn't find one that matches the Lenovo G770.

the one i bought had no bezel, standard fittings so you take the one off the drive you're removing, works great.
if you still want the optical drive you could go for a network drive ?

Yeah could do, I just thought since it's a blu ray drive it would be a shame to just put it in the cupboard - the silverstone ts06 looks like it solves both of my problems.
