Slim Optical Drive On It's Side?
I am putting together my custom PC and have ran out of room on the side panel for the slim drive I have (LiteOn DL-8ATSH Slim SLOT Loading Black 8x DVD-RW SATA Optical Drive) Product
Was wondering if it can be mounted on it's side? The LiteOn website I can not even find it and it was OEM so came with no info.

Aren't they mounted on their side by default on the Wii, and optionally on the PS3?

Yes good point, the CD must be clamped in some way when spinning so it should be happy.
Any one also know the size of the micro screws use to hold it in?
Re: Slim Optical Drive On It's Side?
The typical spec is the M2 screw (ie. 2mm diameter). You can buy them off ebay if you search "m2 screw laptop". Careful not to buy M2.5 which is thicker.
Is this still that radio PC thingy? You might have to buy longer than typical screws if you are not using a proper mount. If however you have a bracket, a M2x3 (3mm deep) will be enough.

It is indeed, been a bit slow in putting it all together. I have pictures from each stage so will do a post soon about the project, and should be able to do final build next week. I was lucky to find a MATX mobo tray the rest of the stuff is all custom and there are no guildes on the web about putting a PC in a 60 year old radio. lol

Is there a reason you need an optical drive in there? If it's for music or movies, I'd recommend ripping and just using a USB optical drive for the odd moments when you need it. Nowadays, I think many optical drives go unused with the advent of cloud-almost-everything.
I feel you may be better served by using generous amounts of thick (the kind which has a little foam in it) double sided tape instead. It will help dampen the drive and may stop a god awful rattle since I don't know what kind of mounts you got in that radio. :P

I have asked my self this question a number of times. 5 years ago when I made my last PC my DVD drive was forever spinning. Playing games (now Steam) Music (then I copied it all across to iTunes and download new) and playing movies (Which I now rent on Apple TV) (Sorry Blockbuster)
In the last couple of years I can not remember the last time the drawer opened, I have made bootable USB sticks for friends before so Windows install would not be a problem
I have the drive now with mini SATA cable so will still use it in this build, it also be useful to cover up a slight gap I made when I cut the fan hole. :-D
