250 GB SSD - Samsung, Intel or Crucial?

    Hey guys,
I'm looking to invest in a 250GB SSD, but I cant decide which. I've researched all and all seem to have equally good said about them, hence the pickle I'm in - So all help appreciated!

Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5 inch Basic SATA Solid State Drive - £127
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-250G...2&keywords=ssd

    Intel SSDSC2CT240A4K5 Extreme 335 240GB 2.5 inch Solid State Drive - £130
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-SSDSC2...ords=intel+ssd

    Crucial CT240M500SSD1 2.5-inch 240GB M500 SATA 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive
    by Crucial - £128
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-CT24...ds=crucial+ssd

Also, what software do you recommend for cloning a hard drive (with OS intact - its a dell laptop) to the SSD? - I'm looking to invest in Acronis TrueImage, but are there any others?

    Thanks

Re: 250 GB SSD - Samsung, Intel or Crucial?

    Samsung SSD 840 EVO review.

Following I would say Samsung EVO = Intel 335 > Crucial M500. The warranty for both Intel and Samsung are 3years, I would say depends on your preferences. Don't forget, the Intel SSD relies on compressible data for full performance.

As per cloning software, I like DriveImage XML.

Samsung evo all the way. Around 500 mbps read write and high IOPS numbers of over 90k.

It's slightly pricier, but you may want to check out the Samsung 840 Series Pro 256GB. It's probably the best you can buy at the moment

Not sure I have a non Evo 840, give it a go - you won't break them.

Samsung EVO seem to have a newer controller which make it read/write faster as far as I concerned.
so yeah, Samsung seems to be a good choice here

M500 easily has it uses better NAND(MLC instead of TLC):

I have the Hyper3K and it uses MLC NAND.

Interesting, so am i right in concluding that the MLC NAND drives look like they'll last longer on average than TLC drives?

If so, then it seems worth trading some of the performance for longevity.

Re: 250 GB SSD - Samsung, Intel or Crucial?

samsung evo. Anandtech did some research and conclude the TLC NAND will be fine for the average user. Enterprise users may want to worry about demanding MLC.

the M500 performs worse than the EVO. I just bought the EVO (already have the 840 pro) and FYI it is £118 on Amazon at the moment. BARGAIN!
