    SSD Advice

    Hi all,

I already own a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD and have just purchased a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD and was going to run 1 as an OS drive with all main programs (Office, skype etc) and my documents, with the other one set up as a gaming drive for game installs.

Question is, which would be the better one for OS and which for the gaming drive?

    Re: SSD Advice

I would Pro for gaming and evo for os. I use the EVO for my OS and it loads up in about 5-7 seconds. I doubt it would be noticeably any faster. And game loading speeds increased by a couple of seconds is better than OS loading up a second faster. Also it takes my monitor roughly the same time to load up anyway, so any faster would be a waste for me.

I would use the Pro for the OS, simply because its flash memory is more durable.

I doubt you would notice a difference in real world performance either way.

I would have got the Plextor M5S and Crucial M500 TBH,as these are actually closer to the 840 PRO.

    Re: SSD Advice

Thanks for all the replies. I did read somewhere since posting that the Pro has more durable memory so using that for OS is probably the best idea.

I did look at the crucial M500 and Plextor but they were slightly more expensive and to save my wife divorcing me I decided to keep costs down (spent £2100 in past 2 months on PC with £650 back after selling old gear). It wasn't a lot with M500 being £10 more and Plextor £21 but Samsung drives and always been rock solid for me in the past and I was only going to get a 120GB OS drive originally and had a fight to get the 250GB one.

    Re: SSD Advice

The performance gain will be so slight that in all honesty if you already have the OS on one drive, leave it like that and just add the second drive for games. By the time any longevity issues rise their heads these drives will be long replaced. If you have them both blank I would stick the EVO as the OS and the Pro for games -your os drive will have masses of room so no point using the bigger drive here and the games drive will be accessed more when playing so you might get an unnoticeable boost here using the Pro.
