    Question SSD Reliability Poll

OK, so in the news thread :
    http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-news/2...lure-rate.html
it was noted that some SDDs have suffered reliability problems, and the result seemed to be a tad higher than expected. So in response to that, here is our own little poll....
    Cheers, David

    Re: SSD Reliability Poll

My first SSD (Crucial M225) started to go bonkers after 2 years. It was promptly replaced (in warranty) with a brand new m4.

    Crucial is great

    Re: SSD Reliability Poll

Yes - All of the Sandforce based drives I dealt with have failed within the first 6 months, but this was before the mass of firmware updates were released.

    The Crucials have been solid.

It's all about the brand and quality

    Re: SSD Reliability Poll

    As I've posted before..

Definitely OCZ SSDs. The Vertex 2 120GB I bought for my main sys was DoA, the replacement lasted just over 5 days and the replacement of that lasted 3 hours (died right after I was done installing and configuring everything). Got my money back and stopped giving a eff about SSDs for quite some time..

Decided to give them another go much later with a totally different series/controller for my netbook because the HDD in there had tons of bad sectors. I wasn't even interested in the speed aspect at all. Just the fact that there are no moving parts to go wrong (and 2.5" HDDs being ridiculously expensive at the time).
Bought a Petrol 64GB. First one died after waking up from standby just a couple hours after I bought it (not recognised anymore). Replacement worked for 3 weeks. It magically turned read-only (followed by a BSOD). The replacement of that read-only semi-dead SSD was DoA (not detected at all). Totally fed up with their POS SSDs. For me it's now Crucial M4, Samsung 830 or no SSD at all.
That's 6 dead OCZ SSDs total. The M4 I ended up buying instead has been working fine so far. Updated the firmware, played around with it a bit (benchmarking, filling it up with random BS, formatting etc. blah blah) and started moving over..

    Re: SSD Reliability Poll

I bought an OCZ Vertex 2e and had it in use for about a year or so before changing it for a refurbished Crucial C300 when they were on Offer.

Didn't have problems with either of them.

    I'm still using the C300.
