    It's such a pain in the backside. I've now got a MBPr so I'm tempted to get rid of mac on my hard drive, bit I need the power of my PC for Logic so it looks like either an iMac or a Mac Mini, bearing in mind I'm a student. Doesn't seem likely!

    That could well be it. Disconnect any unnecessary drives (including usb and external) and try the scan again.

    Could you not just disable it in the BIOS when you want to run the scan and then enable it again when you want to boot into MAC O/S. It could save you the headache of having to disconnect it every time.

    Well I unplugged it but programmes still froze, but HDTune I think it's called worked and came back error free. Maybe because the other ones still had settings from before - HDTune was a fresh install again.
