    Swaping sata ports

    Hello All,

I'm thinking of buying the 500GB 840 EVO as a second ssd for my system.

My motherboard, an ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE, has only two intel sata3 ports both of which are currently used by:

My ssd, an 840pro, which currently runs my OS

And my storage hdd, an wd caviar black.

I want to move the caviar black to an sata2 port so that i can have the new 840 evo on the sata 3 port. Will moving the caviar black to a sata2 port from the current sata3 one cause any problems, or will it mess up my letter assignment in any way? And is there anything i need to be careful for adding the new ssd? From what i understand i just install it and then allocate it through disk management in win 7.

My primary ssd that has the OS will remain as is in its current sata 3 port, this already has boot priority in bios.

Your advice would be very appreciated.

Letter assignment may well shift around, but as you say you can use disk management to assign them back.

    Should otherwise be fine.

I don't see why you should have a problem with what you are proposing.

    Re: Swaping sata ports

You should face no issues whats-o-ever.

Designation for the secondary SSD would be what? If performance is kept for the main OS drive, I would personally go for the driver with the best capacity/price ratio.

Seagate 600 Series 480GB 2.5inch SATA-III SSD for £159.99 <- seems to be a good price for an SSD. The extra £20 wouldn't warrant for the performance difference.
