Seagate is sometimes cheaper however they are less reliable and you dont want your drive to get corrupt and end up losing data and stuff so western digital is the way to go for reliability.

Re: Seagate or Western Digital?
Western Digital all the way!
Re: Seagate or Western Digital?
Seagate is prone to failure. Always go with WD - the extra cost is negligible.
Re: Seagate or Western Digital?
I have a 3TB Seagate that has started to make unhealthy noises, it is approaching 1 year old. It was about £20 cheaper than the equivalent Western Digital at the time and to be honest I regret not paying the extra to go with Western Digital.
Also when I look at a Seagate drive I get the impression that they have cheaped out on the build quality.
Re: Seagate or Western Digital?
I will assume that WD utilizes its Green hard drive in this enclosure which is a bit slow for me but for a storage device I quess it will do.

In day to day activities differences between 7200RPM and 5400RPM are hard to notice (I have 2x 2.5" 5400RPM HDDs and they are just fine).
Re: Seagate or Western Digital?
I have used both without any issues, but if I were to buy another, it would be WD due to their better reputation from my experience.
Re: Seagate or Western Digital?
IMO both manufacturers are pretty decent, though I tend to lean towards Western Digital. I have the WD blue which is a great drive and has some pretty good reviews:

I have also used the WD blacks which I really like to.
Re: Seagate or Western Digital?
I've always used WD for my personal pcs. The main storage drive that I use day-to-day is a WD Velociraptor that is over 6 yrs.
Re: Seagate or Western Digital?
I'd only use Seagate if I wanted a hybrid drive for performance and capacity on the cheap (and don't particularly mind when it inevitably blows up), otherwise WD.
Re: Seagate or Western Digital?
I lean towards WD (mainly find the green drives quieter) but don't like to view any HDDs as "reliable"
-you should always be prepared for any brand HDD to randomly fail at any point !
backup backup backup !
Re: Seagate or Western Digital?
WD drives seem more reliable than the Seagates.
Re: Seagate or Western Digital?
I've had one of my WD drives working since 2009. Its still going fairly strong albiet slow and probably degraded a bit but nevertheless its done me good for 5 years whereas, my friend's seagate lasted just over a year before dying.
