SD/CF via ZIF adapter vs. 1.8" ZIF HDD

I couldn't find any tests or comparisons to see differences between a classical 1.8" HDD (4200RPM) and SD or CF card via adapter.

Previously was suggested that I/O via cards would be really really bad, but against a classical HDD and 4200RPM at that..?

Anybody tried? Cause the reason to ask was me having a DELL Latitude D420 and SSD would be a waste but I have a number of big SD and CF cards and the current 60GB 4200RPM is not really fast.

EDIT: AS SSD, HD Tach and HD Tune results comming.

P.S.: It couldn't be the CPU holding it back, right?
