What's the best SSD do you think is out there?
Just to get an idea, which SSD do you regard as:
- Reliable
- Good Build Quality
- Value for Money
- Has a Good Aesthetic Look
Re: What's the best SSD do you think is out there?
I consider reliable & value for money to mean that you would pay more for reliability.
So, currently the Intel DC S3700.
However, Intel announced some new enterprise-grade PCIe SSDs a few days ago... and they look very nice indeed....

Also, aesthetics is really a consideration for SSD choice?? Hmm.
Re: What's the best SSD do you think is out there?
If there was a 'best' it would pretty much the only one.
The question is really what is best for you, depending on the application you have in mind.
However, for a high speed disc, You might want to look at the Angelbird range. They have been designed for video applications, but they can just as easily be used for general computing, and if aesthetics are important, they meet that criteria too.
You can find the range here www.angelbird.com

Well, yes it might. But the OP did ask which one was best, not why. ;)

I wouldn't touch a OCZ, Plextor or a Sandisk
Aesthetics ? All the SSD's are grey and have a sticker on them. Maybe print a custom sticker and stick your own ?

True, but he didn't specify the criteria he judged to be the most important. :)

You didn't follow the link I posted did you :)
(And it would probably be helpful to say why you would rule out Tahoe makes!!)
Re: What's the best SSD do you think is out there?
I would say one of the Intel commercial SSDs using SLC or MLC NAND. Reliability and good support are what are the most important aspects of an SSD IMHO.
If its a consumer SATA drive, then the Crucial MX100 512GB. Uses MLC NAND,is great value for money and has IIRC has even has an enterprise inspired reliability feature called RAIN. Crucial has great customer support.
For the average user I don't see the point of spending any more on a 500GB drive.

I though Plextor had a good reputation. Back in the day, their optical drives were really good, and weren't they OEM for some Intel SSDs?
Re: What's the best SSD do you think is out there?
840 Evo in terms of performance across the board and reliability.
Crucial MX100 just came out and you can see from reviews it's not the best.

By and large, I agree, but I'd query if the "average" user really needs an SSD at all, let alone a 500GB one. It might be nice, but how much is the speed a "need" as opposed to a desire?
If budget is loose, fine, it's a nice luxury. If budget is tight?

MLV vs TLC debate.
Benchmarks vs almost no difference at all in real world scenarios.
Can't believe such a vaguely questioned thread has gotten so much traction. People are just debating things without actually knowing what the OP wants. Price range, usage purpose, size.....and so on.....none are listed.
Just to get an idea, which forum poster do you regard as:
- Unlikely to get colds
- Likely to survive a stern knock to the chin
- Will do my bidding for a paltry amount
- Is visually pleasing to the eye
Sorry OP, you need to provide way more information on your needs :D

As for my first post, I am completely surprised how quickly this blew up...

Blew up?
Why don't you tell us your needs and then we might be able to help.....
Re: What's the best SSD do you think is out there?
Crucial for Price/performance.
Re: What's the best SSD do you think is out there?
Anyone using a m.2 as a boot drive? if so what model? read some reviews about models that don't boot so wondering which one to get if any at all.
Re: What's the best SSD do you think is out there?
Samsung EVO or Crucial M500 if you want to save.
