Samsung Evo SSD detection
Hi
Have just received a 250GB SSD but am having problems in getting it detected firstly in BIOS then in Windows 7.
Turned on AHCI in BIOS but found the only way to show it in BIOS was connecting to one of the two sata2 ports. All sata3 don't show it in BIOS. When in Windows though it shows in explorer but the Samsung software doesn't detect any ssd.
Motherboard is Gigabyte GA870A-UD3.
Bios at highest update F5.

Try to turn off all the functions that you may not need:
-eSATA controller & eSATA mode
-GSATA IDE Ctrl & IDE mode
I would go even as far as to turn off everything storage related, connect the SSD to one of the (onboard)SATA 3 connectors and try to turn back things until it shows up.
Re: Samsung Evo SSD detection
Thanks for the info. Just to update it was a flaky SATA cable. Used an old SATA2 one instead of the new SATA3 and detected OK. That will teach me in using the cheapy SCAN SATA3 cables. Some work fine but this one obviously not. Have migrated Primary OS to SSD and boots fine.
Re: Samsung Evo SSD detection
Weird, the Scan cables I've used seem to be reasonable quality; I'd let them know about it in case they've changed supplier and are getting duff products or something.
Cables are easy to overlook when it comes to troubleshooting though, as I've posted about elsewhere, I had a weird problem with HDD errors and even SMART data throwing up errors, which turned out to be caused by some crap power splitter cable from ebay.
Generally, I try to hang on to cables supplied with products e.g. USB cables supplied with phones, SATA cables with motherboards, etc, as those ones are generally good quality and it's really hard to find decent ones on the net for a reasonable price amongst all of the generic crap plaguing the market.
Re: Samsung Evo SSD detection
The cables seemed OK and for the most part were but not expensive. Interesting to hear your experience. Funnily enough it's an original Gigabyte SATA 2 being used.

Just FYI: There is no such thing as a SATA "2" or "3" cable. It's marketing. The official SATA specification even states that there is no difference.
