Have updated and fixed the issue for my 2 x drives. Will keep a eye on it and perform the same HD Tune test in a month to see how its holding out
done it on my 1tb msata evo, I had to secure erase by running the PSID Revert tool due to me encrypting the drive as speeds suddenly halved a couple of months back.

Is it just a firmware update? Or is there anything else I need to do?
I've got like 3-4 of these drives in different machines
" Fixing the problem is a two-part process managed by Samsung's appropriately named Performance Restoration tool. First, the utility flashes the SSD's firmware with the new EXT0CB6Q revision. Then, it reboots the system and completes the restoration process, which we're told involves "conditioning" the NAND. The entire process is non-destructive, so it shouldn't compromise any data on the drive. It also only needs to be run once. That said, the target drive must have at least 10% free capacity for the tool to work its magic. "
Here was my read times before the FIX
and here is the result after update...
My system defintly feels "snappier" now, I thought I was imagining the slower performance at first until, I heard about the update.
The issue was only viewable on data over a month old so I will be sure to check again in a month or so, see if this is a permfix
Did it affect all models? My Samsung 840 EVO seemed to run absolutely fine - maybe I was just so used to regular hard drives that I never picked up on this...
Is the tool Windows only? When I checked out the Samsung website, it only had ISOs for the update.

For the first month everything seemed fine for me, but the issue only seems to affect data that has sat there for a month or more, but then slowly just noticed it seemed slightly slower, loading times, responsiveness on opening existing long term docs etc - then having seen the reports and then having ran the HD Tune tests it all made sense.
The update is very painless, is run through your Windows desktop using The Samsung SSD 840 EVO Performance restoration tool, took about 40mins per 240GB drive for me (both drives half full) will take slightly longer if you have less empty disk space.
