Damned Corsair Pen Drives!
Mild rant coming but I've just had another Corsair Voyager pen drive fail on me - that's two in a year :censored: (one was a refurb right enough but still).
If it were a less well known, cheap brand, I'd be less annoyed but it's not. Given Corsair's antics with their PSUs (starting with seasonic then moving to cheaper components) and now this I will go out of my way to avoid buying any of their products where possible. After checking online it seems there are a fair few others who've had similar issues.
From now on I'll stick to SanDisk and Kingston. Lesson learned.
Rant over
Re: Damned Corsair Pen Drives!
Must admit, while I still look upon Corsair favourably, I've had a few minor problems with their stuff lately myself.
After spilling tea on my K90 (which I admit was my fault entirely) it became apparent that they've decided to place a cut-out directly under the space bar - this wouldn't be a problem, if the keyboard didn't slope down towards it and direct any spilled liquids directly onto the PCB. I have absolute no idea why they've done that or why they thought it was a good idea; it seems to be the only place on the keyboard they've done it and, being the longest key and at the bottom of the slope, it's also the absolute worst position they could have picked. Either way, it seemed like a terrible design decision - we won't go into the new logo - and something people might want to be aware of. I've duct-taped over mine now and (after leaving it to dry for a few days) the keyboard still works, so at least there's that.
The fan controller on my 600T has burned out too, which seems to be an incredibly common fault having looking around a bit on the web. Corsair are apparently willing to replace faulty units but I'm not sure how I'd go about removing & replacing the controller myself and, to be honest, I'd rather spend ~20 on a half-decent one to fit in a 5.25" bay than go through the hassle of RMAing my case.
Re: Damned Corsair Pen Drives!
I think a lot of the love for Corsair comes from their usually good warranties and customer support, sorry to hear about the bad luck you are having with their gear though, I can highly recommend Sandisk for what it is worth, have a few of their Flash Drives and they have always been great, no experience with Kingston however, so cannot comment there =)
Re: Damned Corsair Pen Drives!
agreed the drives are utter pants, I found a tool for my old usb2 survivor series that reset it to its original (pre corsair) state of LTE1168 and since then has been recoverable. Might be worth having a google to see if you can find the tool to work with yours?
Re: Damned Corsair Pen Drives!
Might be worth copying this post to Corsairs own section, http://forums.hexus.net/usb-flash-drives/
See what our friend Greybeard has to say.
Re: Damned Corsair Pen Drives!
It would be a waste of time, it is well known on the corsair official forums how shoddy they can be.
