    Price Evolution of SSD

    Hello all !

Do you know what are the trends for the evolution of the price for SSD's ? Do you know globally what is the current price in $/£ per GB ? (i would assume those numbers are in dollars)

Also what are your "personal" forecasts and bets for the future ?

Thank you for your participation to this discussion !

Thank you for your link ! The charts stop at January 2015, I would like to know the opinion of members about the future.

And if you look at the chart for 512 gb SSD for example, it says that the average price is around 400$ today whereas most of those cost around 250$ (i cant post links yet...)

    Re: Price Evolution of SSD

My forecast is about the segment I am interested the most. 120/128GB & 240/256GB.

I think it is safe to assume that the prices for 120/128GB will drop as low as £30 (even today you can find new for under £40. I know I did last year).

As for the £240/256GB SSDs, going below £50ish or $70 is a real possibility. While of course maintaining excellent value with respectable performance. For SATA III drives.

    Re: Price Evolution of SSD

It would be pretty good if all hard drives were SSD in most systems but prices need to come down and be more affordable. I like the competitive prices of many of the SSDs in the market now up £256GB. Above that then it's just gets far too much. I'd be happy with prices being affordable up to £512GB.

Also how long do you think until SSDs become common place in Laptops. More than desktops I think laptops would benefit more from SSDs taking over HDDs.

    What do you guys think?

    Re: Price Evolution of SSD

The people I know are all using SSDs in laptops but that's because I showed them the differences.....and it is more pronounced in laptops due to the slow drives they commonly use.

The problem with them becoming a non-optional extra though is how highly competitive the laptop market is and how they all seem to race to the bottom line.
