Are 500gb-more hybrid drives worth it?

I'm making my first build I'm the near future, and I'm considering if a hybrid drive will deliver increased performance and quieter ambient noise. Some models seem to be reasonably cheap at the moment - I would still put the OS and other high use programmes on a dedicated SSD.

However I never see them discussed in forums. Is there a good reason for this?

They're not as good as a dedicated SSD and HDD combination, but if you can't do that for any reason then they're better than a plain mechanical drive.

If you are getting a dedicated ssd I don't see the point of an hybrid drive just get a normal hdd and save yourself some money. sshd are more the type of drive you buy if you don't have the money to spend on an ssd and a hdd together and you want faster booting speed that traditional hdd

SSHDs are worth it only if you are really pushed for space, such as in a laptop, small form factor PC or motherboard with few connectors. If you're running the OS from a SSD it's not really worth it, better to get a more reliable, fast mechanical disk like a WD Black.

to be honest, from what I've erad performance-wise the SSHD is not that different from Black:

SSDs are down to the price where for enthusiast builds I can't see people bothering with spinning drives.

If you need/want to store lots of video, then you need something that spins for that sort of capacity but hybrid drives won't help (unless you only watch one movie over and over, Groundhog Day perhaps?).
