    Re: Four Bay NAS

Custom NAS utilising old hardware (or second hand ITX based) while running XPEnology (Same as Synology's DSM)?
Full NAS, no HDD done from £60 (ITX case,ITX MB with 4 SATA ports,E350 APU,ATX PSU,RAM).
Or wait for HP microServer to have cash back again (so to be able to get it for £100?
Had D-Link before, I didn't knew better so I 'tolerated' it. There are better offers. Like Synology or QNAP. Maybe not 4 bay solutions for that price, but there are good.

    Re: Four Bay NAS

To be fair, the D-link for what I use it for, works flawlessly ( Now It will break ! )
1-2 users 3-4 hours a day max with 2 WD Reds
Fan is small and a little noisy
I am after a low power solution as it will be in my home office and it gets hot with too many PC's on.
I have a fair bit of old harware I could use but It would be hot

    Avoid Lenovo Iomega.

The Netgear will be an Amazon deal in an hour.

Not a fan of HP microservers. Building own from used components is cheapest and offers most flexibility.

You would be surprised. I have a tiny CM Elite 110 with a Ivy Bridge Pentium 54W TPD (3.1Ghz), 3 x 3.5" HDDs, full ATX 300W PSU and a 12cm intake FAN on 5V and the hottest the HDDs get is 38°C. The XPEnology software now contains modules to dynamically regulate the CPU frequency (AMD Cool'n'Quiet or Intel EIST) so the CPU will be lest of your problems. With the 3 x HDDs and streaming HD content the consumption at the wall is 33-34W.

    Re: Four Bay NAS

In the end I added another DNS-320
    Both in raid 1
Normaly only one is in use so the other is powered down.
My home office gets very hot ( sun in window and 2-3 PC's )
