Re: SSHD for Storage Drive?
Only frequently accessed files will be cached on the NAND storage, so it might help with game loading times. However, make sure the HDD part of the drive is a decent performer - I've seen a few SSHDs that incorporate 5400 rpm drives, which is fine for general storage but not ideal when loading your games.
TBH the WD Black will probably be a better all-round performer.
Re: SSHD for Storage Drive?
This is the one I was looking at:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-ST20.../dp/B00EIQTKAS
It seems to using a 7200rpm Barracuda as that hd element. My only concern with the hd element would be long term reliability. I've had a few Barracudas fail on me in my life time, although the last one was some 10 years ago or so.
I'm hoping reliability would have improved. I was also looking HGST, as my Hitachi lasted quite some time, but not keen on spending the £120+ on it though.
Re: SSHD for Storage Drive?
Stick with a proper SSD+HDD tbh.
Re: SSHD for Storage Drive?
I agree with the other commenter's. I had a Hybrid SSD also which I really didn't like in the end as there was a noticeable difference in accessing things I had not accessed since powering up my computer.
Stick with SSD and HDD.
Re: SSHD for Storage Drive?
Check out the WD Blue 1TB. It has a single 1tb platter and performance matches the blacks (if not better) at a much lower price. Great drive
Re: SSHD for Storage Drive?
Thank you for the feedback everyone, it seems I'll be going for a WD Black. SSD + HDD combo it is. Also means I can finally remove the WD Velociraptor from my build too, and lower power consumption at the same time.

I did look at the blue, but limited to 1TB, with game sizes getting massive, plus everything else, 2TB is the most appropriate.
Now I'm just hoping I can get my existing drive up long enough to copy over the high priority data. Teaches me not to set up cloud backup services for my documents, and more importantly game saves.

Yeah, I guess thats the only downside to the blues. Oh well, blacks are good aswell!
