New 8TB Seagate Archive ST8000AS0002
I just purchased one of these 8tb hard drives and when i format it in GPT thru disk management it comes up as 1.3tb free.
I have this inserted into my Welland sunbright HDD dock connected thru usb.
I'm not super savvy with this stuff is it firmware , windows related ( win 7 used ) or other.
I find it hard to believe its faulty more likely me.
Any help would be appreciated

Where did you get it from , an you try in another pc or via a Caddy unfortunately it does sound like it may be faulty

The main suspect is certainly the dock.

Yes, I'd try partitioning it in a native SATA controller, rather than through a USB caddy. If the caddy has a eSATA connection, use that.
