"hard disk read error occurred..." samsung drive and true image=bad_move
I posted in 2012 how my hard drive was suddenly not bootable. I restored the faultless drive to factory spec and
reinstalled windows, it was still not bootable! OLD POST. The drive worked fine when True Image was used to reimage it! It's been working fine ever since.
I just upgraded the motherboard, and I have the read error again, and looking at the drive from Linux the boot partiton is empty, yet recovery software shows 66gb of data. I haven't attempted recovery yet. Most partition and drive tools show ~150gb not allocated, a few programs show a small partition below the windows partition and a 150gb one above it!
Does Acronis True Image do anything odd like this .
Off to look for hdd deals now...

I any disk shows any sign of failure, REPLACE.
End of argument.
Re: "hard disk read error occurred..." samsung drive and true image=bad_move
I'll second that: any sign of HD failure => replace drive immediately.
As far as TrueImage goes, it probably didn't do anything to cause the failure as such. Most likely the drive just happened to begin failing when TrueImage ran. Correlation does not always equal causation.
