Using a M.2 adapter for SSD

Looking to get M.2 ssd, but my board has not a m2 slot ( z87-oc ) so was thinking of getting the adapter.

Would i get the same performance using the adapter.

Assuming you have the bandwidth to the slot you're putting the adaptor in, yes. Most M2 just hangs off PCI-E anyway.

    I got 3 pci-e slots spare, x8 and 2 x4 slots.

Physical slots != bandwidth. But as far as I remember, the x8 slot hangs off the CPU so would guarantee the bandwidth (unless you have a GPU that really needs the full x16). Secondary to that you might want to check what the real bandwidth is going to the x4 slots.

Not every board will boot from every type of M.2 SSD, particularly PCI-E AHCI and especially NVMe models.

So if you want to use this as a boot drive then do check that.
