I did order from Scan and got the 850 Pro, 512GB. I'm getting to the age where saving any more seems a bit futile - can't take it with me and all that!
The prices have increased due to the weakness of the £ since last June and also many suppliers using Brexit as an excuse.

I find the approach of just let your computer patch itself and have a good backup strategy works far better. I've never had a bricked install, but if I did, I reinstall. Day or two inconvenience. If I couldn't live with a rebuild, I'd do bare-metal backups and just restore that.

I opted to have only (no HDD at all) a 500gb Samsung 840 EVO in my current PC (now 3 years old) and I cannot imagine going back to a traditional HDD.

Whilst my main space gobblers are photos & games, I still have about 50% unused.

Nevertheless, I am just in the throes of upgrading to a 1tb 850 EVO, to permit more elbowroom, as games are becoming ever larger.

games sizes are getting ridiculous. I'm still on a 128 ssd and a 350gb hdd and i'm really struggling. I mean, forza 7 alone is 99GB!!

I quite agree but alas, I see no end to that trend.

I have some Norton patches larger than some of earlier HDD.

The bugbear for loading new games (for me) is the often massive download required to complete the installation. I have the joys of fickle rural broadband (so called) to contend with. This may often take >10 hours ...

i think the sweet spot at the moment is having an ssd boot drive and a large hdd i have games on my ssd with long loading times and games where it docent realy matter on my hdd just so i dont fill up my ssd

Assuming OP hasn't already made a purchase after making this thread 6 months ago, what evidence (links please,) do you have that Evos are "rubbish & slow"?

Also bear in mind they're upgrading from a HDD, even the slowest SSD will be quicker.

Yeah the patriots might be a touch quicker, which is awesome if all you do is sit there running SSD benchmarks.

Most people just want an SSD to make their PC quicker, and neither they or you can tell the difference between a Patriot or Samsung SSD in everyday use.

So perhaps the OP would like to come back after 6 months to say if is 850 has been “ rubbish and slow”

Samsung SSD drives are fast and so far reliable for me these last few years. I'd go for of them and prepare to be delighted.

M2 drives are amazingly fast - but in you case, i'd stick with and ssd - cheaper and in the real world likely workably as fast.

Please enlighten us with some examples from main stream YouTube reviewers. Past a certain point you will not be able to tell the difference in real world use and then it comes to other factors like mtf and warranty support. And here like many other manufacturers Samsung has had some issues but those were mainly with the 840 evo iirc.

He / she can't and won't, after all, this..person...posts this kind of uneducated bs from time to time... stuff such as -

you ran out of gas and your gas pump got clogged up with all the sludge at the bottom of the tank

goto a car shop and ask for some engine cleaner you put in your gas tank

gas = petrol

easy, the fuel pump is not fully open at low rev`s, if it has some sludge from the bottom of your tank in, the engine will stutter, if you keep driving with low fuel, and don`t put any sludge breakdown cleaner in your tank, the breakdown cost will probably cost you £400 minimum for a new fuel pump and other little things

its not bad going, engine cleaner only costs £5 -> £20

if you find some cleaner you put in your fuel tank, you just have to leave your car running for a while

if it can save you £400, its no harm done, or get a skoda octavia through the MOT

I've seen plenty of builds from plenty of different people who swear by Samsung and providing facts as to why..should probably do some research first me-yeah..
