Pre-purchase questions on features and possible configuration of a Qnap TS-453A
It has been a long time since I posted any questions on the Hexus forum, and I am not entirely sure if I should post my questions on the Hexus forum alone or post these on the Qnap forum as well in order to trigger a better response.
Question 1:
- Can the QNAP TS-453A be configured as 2 separate LAN backup / network device:
- Generally speaking RAID 5 requires a minimum of 3 HDD of the same capacity / identical, as the QNAP TS-453A has 4 HDD drive bays, (should all drive bays be populated with identical WD-RED drives, could such QNAP TS-453A be configured to use 3 HDD bays as RAID 5 on one LAN, and a single specific drive bay set to operate on a separate LAN (where the LANs would not be linked)?
- Ideally I require the QNAP TS-453A to work with 2 separate LANs that must never connect to each other (or share files with one another on the LAN).
- I do not intend to enable the WiFi mode of this device and would be disabling this feature.
Question 2:
- I require to entirely disable the QNAP TS-453A to access the internet for its own updates, and would prefer to configure this device to allow it to obtain its own updates from a specific location and HDD drive of my choice, and from a specific LAN configured as a static LAN of my choice, can the disabling of the automatic updates be made, and can the updates be configured to use a different location to upload the update files?
Question 3:
- Can the cloud feature and ability of the QNAP TS-453A be completely removed and / or completely disabled?
Question 4:
- After an update of the QNAP TS-453A software or firmware, and following a possible necessary reboot, does the QNAP TS-453A needs to be reconfigured from scratch?
Question 5:
- Can a final or finalised configuration of the QNAP TS-453A be saved manually to a storage device and be manually uploaded onto the QNAP TS-453A if necessary?
Question 6:
- What is the "Virtual" KVM / KVM hypervisor feature of the QNAP TS-453A used for?
Question 7:
- I require to be able to switch the QNAP TS-453A off overnight possibly every night either selectively and manually; can this be done (with the remote control) and can the QNAP TS-453A be powered off at the mains rather than just setting it into a sleep mode?
I have one more question regarding the OpenVPN feature which I may ask at a later stage.
In posting these questions I am not looking for criticism or for comparing products, instead I am trying to find out if this product can achieve what I am looking for. Especially if there are owners of this product whom have the answers to these questions.
