I'm glad it's not just me. Even if it does mean I'm showing my age.

I have a Synology Diskstation with:
2x 3TB Red
2x 4TB Red
2x 6TB Red
2x 2TB Seagate (Old Drives) - (1 just died - 7 years old)
2x 1.5TB WD Green (Old Drives) - (1 showing bad sectors recently - 7 or 8 years old)
Recently I have had problems with the Reds. 1x 3TB (1.5 years old) , 1x 4TB (1 year old) and 1x 6TB Red (3 months old) showing bad sectors. WD Support and RMA process are not as good as it used to be. I have only now managed to get an Advance RMA - took 2 weeks just to organise.
I hear HGST drives are pretty good and they have a 5-year warranty. Might move to them in the future. The Reds aren't as great as I thought, just search NAS forums.
I had one too, sent back and eventually replaced with one twice the capacity as they didn't make such small drives any more.
One design fault which only happens under light load, completely understood and never going to happen again, but lost people's trust in the brand.
They historically were (I used to work for a different storage part of Hitachi) but as I said HGST are now a Western Digital brand so things are more complicated.
