    SEAGATE EXOS X14 12TB ST12000NM0008 HD Windows 7 Incompatible?!

    Good day!
I just bought a new SEAGATE EXOS X14 12TB ST12000NM0008 Enterprise HD and installed it in my Windows 7 Pro 64bit desktop PC, M/B Asus P5B-E, RAM DDR-2 8GB 667MHZ, Intel Quad Core Q9500 2.83GHZ.
The drive is recognized in the Disk management as 2 partitions 2048GB & 9128GB. The 2048GB partition I was able to create a simple volume and format it in NTFS just fine (F. But the 9128GB partition is unallocated and does not allow me to create a new volume, format or merge it with the other part! The options remain grey! Is there something I'm doing wrong, is the HD defective or is it incompatible with Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit?!
Any help to solve this will be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Looks like the disk is MBR partitioned which only goes up to 2TB, it needs to be re-initialised as GPT to make use of >2TB.

Windows 7 supports GPT and >2TB partitions and fortunately you're working on a new and blank drive without an OS on it!

Google "MBR to GPT Windows 7" for guides on how to convert the disk to GPT.

Dear Sir, thank you! That worked! I'm intending on using this HD solely for backup and chose it because it's supposed to have a longer 2.5M-hr MTBF rating compared to the other Barracuda drives, so it should last longer.
I didn't even know about this GPT thing! Why do they have so many different parameters and make things frustrating and not just keep it nice & simple?!
