What hard drives are people using these days for home server storage?
Dont really want to go down the WD route at the mo as they've annoyed me with the whole SMR/CMR thing..
Could shuck if worth it..

at least they clarified the range so you can order with confidence. Seagate are less clear unless you shell for their approved drives for NAS
I have a couple of WD red in my NAS and they're fine.
I'm currently looking at the 8Tb Elements or MyBook, both are the same price on Amazon (£156), or there's a 12Tb Elements for £186..
@jimborae when you say deal, how much are you talking?
This maybe of interest:

Maybe we should be looking at drives other than WD. I know I've had couple of reds' fail on me and I got caught by the SMR fiasco with two WD Red 6Tb drives which are SMR.

HGST drives it is then, oh no, wait a second, bought by WD and phased out in 2018..
Meh...
My pool is currently 16Tb with 3Tb free space, any shucked drive is likely to be a WD, and as much as I hate them, man this is why competion is a good thing..
Heads up for some enterprise grade drive shucking!!!

Still not ordered a drive tbh, stuck between the 8Tb and 12Tb drives, nearly ordered the 8Tb the otherday but then, well, didnt.. lol
Is there likely to be any difference between MyBook and Elements drives from a chucking POV?
Dont know tbh, but if you havent bought any yet then I'd go for these 12Tb ones. As said 7200rpm, enterprise grade drives with a 3 year warranty. For less than £380 a pair, that's a steal. I would have gone for them myself and added another 12Tb raided storage to my network but I have no need & no room right now.
Amazon have dropped the price of the 8Tb to £135 though, and given my pool size is only 14Tb over 3 drives even adding a single 12Tb does seem a touch excessive lol
So, drive arrived, opened it up and it’s a WD80EDAZ drive.
Not sure, it runs hot tho, 55oC just sat on my desk copying files..
