I have an EVGA X99 Micro 2 motherboard with a Samsung SM951 512GB M2 SSD (mzhpv512hdgl-00000) which apparently has a read speed of 2150MB/s which I'm thinking of replacing with a 1TB.
Would something like the Samsung 980 1 TB PCIe 3.0 (up to 3.500 MB/s) NVMe M.2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (MZ-V8V1T0BW) be compatible? The specs of my MOBO suggests the M2 slot supports 'upto 32GB/s'
Am I right in assuming the Samsung 980 which is faster would be OK but limited to 32GB/s?

Whilst not 9 times the speed, is still more than the drive is rated at, so its fine.
Does the X99 platform support NVME based m2 ssd's ?

I'm running a 980 pro on mine which I put all my gaming on. Nice choice
NVME to me is the protocol, a interface would be something like a pci slot, in this case the interface is the m2 key and the protocol is nvme; or at least thats how i understand itQuote:
