    Can't connect to N5200PRO after WAN/LAN exchange

    Hi,

This is my first post on the forum. I can't gain access to the N5200PRO after doing a WAN/LAN exchange and turned the 4 ports into an unmanaged switch. It's probably my fault as I'm a noob when it comes to networking.

N5200PRO BR (firmware v2.00.00.11) IP settings:
    WAN: 192.168.1.100
    LAN: 192.168.3.0

two ports on the WAN directly connect to the following:
    192.168.1.1 (router/ADSL)
192.168.1.14 (pc, IP assigned by router)

The PC on 192.168.1.14 connects successfully to the internet so the switch on the N5200 seems to be working now but I can't access the web interface 192.168.1.100 or access the folders on the RAID array \\192.168.1.100 (i've tried 192.168.3.0 as well)

As far as i know, it's not the DHCP server on 192.168.1.1 (there's large enough pool of addresses to accommodate the N5200 IP address). I've tried switching the DHCP server off (to no effect) and changing the N5200 WAN and LAN IP addresses around using the front display panel management console but the settings aren't kept for some reason.

I've run out of ideas and it's not clear in the manual if the 'Reset to Default' option in the management console resets the RAID array and I would end up loosing all the data on it!

Any help would be much appreciated,

    Thanks

    Daer Sir,

The reset to default setting won't erase the RAID & data, only the configuration as like IP & user account will be erase.

If having the WAN LAN exchange issue, please provide us more information as like operation process & configuration.

    Yvon.

I’ve been able to get access again after selecting the reset to default in the management console. To remove as many variables as I can; the PC (fixed IP address 192.168.1.14) is the only device connected to the N5200 and it’s connected to the single Ethernet socket.

I then tried the following from the web interface:

    1. enabled the WAN LAN exchange support
    2. rebooted
    3. repaired the network connection on the PC

and was able to connect to 192.168.1.100 without having to swap over the network cable.

This seems a bit odd unless I’ve misunderstood what the exchange does. The diagram on the web interface shows that with the exchange enabled, the single port should be the LAN and the 4 ports should be the WAN. But I can’t figure out how I am able to connect to 192.168.1.100 if I’m now [according to the diagram on the web interface] meant to be connected to the LAN (where the IP address is 192.168.2.254)!?!

That aside, I’ve put together a diagram of the network and outlined below what I’d like to achieve:

[the forum doesn't allow URL's untill I've posted 5 times... urgh]

Control 192.168.1.14 from 192.168.1.12 or 192.168.2.10 using Remote desktop and utilise the 1Gbps connection on the 192.168.1.14 machine to access and modify files on the N5200. Is this possible?

    Thanks
